AIRDROP stopped working after updating of OS

  1. I just upgraded to Big Sur macOS 11.1 with a big hope that AIRDROP will resume to normal working condition which was giving trouble since past few months with just one way transfer.
  2. But after upgrading to Big Sur, AIRDROP stopped completely means both way any transfer is stopped now.
  3. Earlier at least I could at least send files from iPhone to MacBook, but NOT from MacBook to iPhone.
  4. Now either way file transfer has stopped completely and cant detect the devices in Airdrop.
  5. Bluetooth icon at the iPhone is not visible (but woking) since updated iOS to 14.3 few months back.
  6. Thought with all updations to latest versions to both the devices, bluetooth icon will be visible and AIRDROP will start working both ways. Instead more worst situation happened. Says "No People Found. There is no one nearby to share with"
  7. Hampering my valuable time and productivity.

Any solution will be highly appreciated.

( by the way, my Apple ID in some apps in the MacBook stopped logging in whereas same login credentials are working at iCloud.com, Apple.com( thats why could post the issues here ), and at iPhone without issues. )

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.1

Please check your Screen Time restrictions on your iPhone.

Screen Time

Settings > Screen Time > Content and Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps > AirDrop [Enable]

Watch the GIF below

If you have Contacts Only turned On then please add Apple ID of the sending device to your list of contacts on the receiving device. See the pic at the bottom of this post for better clarity

Before you begin

  • Make sure that the person you're sending to is nearby and within Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
  • Check that you and the person you're sending to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you have Personal Hotspot on, turn it off.
  • Check if the person you're sending to has their AirDrop set to receive from Contacts Only. If they do, and you’re in their Contacts, they need to have your email address or mobile number in your contact card for AirDrop to work.
  • If you're not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone in order to receive the file.

You can put your AirDrop receiving setting to Contacts Only or Receiving Off at any time to control who can see your device and send you content in AirDrop.

  • Appreciate very much your gif and guidance to try these options to solve the issue.
  • And I'm very happy to say that one of the guidance points solve the issue immediately and that is "If you're not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone in order to receive the file."
  • First I have tried following the gif ( very helpful to understand ) and saw 'Airdrop' is set ON already. Still I tried it off and on next. Though I've not understood this "Content and Privacy Restrictions" feature from iPhone clearly!
  • Next I will try by "contacts only" option after setting the apple IDs in both the contact list, though I think Apple ID is set already at both the devices but not sure. Since Apple ID is giving trouble in the MacBook after updating to BigSur.
  • With reference from your second screenshot, when my Airdrop menu is showing my iPhone name in the MacBook it is not displaying my iPhone or iCloud image icon as I can see your image icon ( although it is blurred here for good reason ).

Thank you v much again for your help. 🍫💐
