Moving Download Folder - MacBook Air - Big Sur

With an inadvertent click of the mouse, my Downloads folder has disappeared from the dock and despite opening the Downloads in finder and dragging back to the dock, it has refused to move! Can anyone help please?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

I have been able to create a link in the dock that opens the folder in Finder, however cannot figure out how to change this to view it over top of my desktop as a stack in the bubble-like view as it was before. Downloads folder in one user account appears different without the blue folder icon Hi all, My user account was missing the downloads folder, so first I went to my home folder and dragged it over to the dock. The resulting folder had a different appearance than the usual blue folder with the downwards arrow. It as us you can see looks ugly with stacked appearance of the containing files. So next I tried this command that I got from mac osx daily website still the same result. terminal: defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock Now I am updating to the latest version of mac os x Sonoma I am currently on the previous iteration.

How to get downloads back onto dock? So I accidentally was fidgeting around and dragged the downloads folder out of my bottom dock. I found that you could add it back by dragging the folder in, but it is a different setup. The old one pointed straight up and was in order of most recent downloads. I am on MacBook Pro M1. Does anyone know how to get the original downloads dock that is there when you start up the mac for the first time?

Following your 'Add to Dock' suggestion and using Control Mouse click I have managed to add it back on to the Dock. Looks slightly different than the fan style of presentation but at least it's there now so thank you!

Now it is in Dock >> Again Right Click the Downloads folder in the Dock. Again, popup menu will appear and tick off the options desired.

Also should work in Finder Sidebar - Right click Downloads and popup with choice to Add to Dock

Dragging "Downloads" from the Finder Sidebar should work.

I have tried that. I also tried moving it from the Finder sidebar onto the Desktop but it's disappeared completely now :(

Check Finder > Preferences… > Sidebar to see if "Downloads" is marked.
