How to remove an Apple ID from iPad that is no longer active or valid?

How to remove an Apple ID from iPad that is no longer active or valid? My wife's ipad has a AppleID that we don't have the password for, and the ID is no longer valid / recognized by Apple. How do I get it removed from the ipad? Also, that ID was used to enable the Find my ipad feature, so can't disable that feature.

Any help would be appreciated.
