Can't Update OS

I'm currently on macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 using a Macbook Pro 2017. I'm trying to update to the latest operating system so I can use a design software I downloaded, but every time I select "Software Update" it's opening the app store, but not displaying the new OS.

This computer is relatively new, has never given me problems and I hardly use it. Is there a way I can force update the OS?

Thanks

How to upgrade to macOS Big Sur - Apple Support It says you need more than 35 Gb of free space.

There's an alternative download site. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-big-sur/id1526878132?ls=1&mt=12

When clicking on the links above use your Safari browser.

If you are considering upgrading to Catalina or Big Sur be warned they do not support 32bit apps.

Your Mac is probably running 32bit apps and these will need to be updated to 64bit apps,

some updates may be free, some may be paid. Use this app to discover which apps you have

are 32bit, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/ then contact the developers of the software to see

if they are providing 64bit updates or alternatives.

You will also need to check if any printers/ scanners etc you use with your mac

have drivers available for the newer OS's.
