camera green flashing and not working

I have been researching the forum for "camera green flashing and not working" but I haven't seen any recent post for macOS Big Sur Version 11.1, running on a macbook.

I have been following all advices, run it the diagnostics tool, rebooted laptop, etc. but apparently my laptop has no issues. Also I tried different applications: teams, photo booth, facetime, skype etc but non of these will allow me to use the camera, it keeps flashing. According to my security settings, I should be able to use it.

I still not sure whether it's a hardware, software or security. Any other recommendation how to fix it except the ones posted already (and I tried those unsuccessfully)?

I think it's interesting to find out that I never have issues with the camera on my windows run dell laptops (for the office) in the last 10 years but apple seems not really able to fix it.

Hey there mactomtom,

We understand you need your Mac camera working so you can use it for FaceTime and other face-to-face apps. We'll be glad to assist.

Let's try some steps to help fix these issues. Please start by restarting in safe mode. Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, completes a basic check of your startup disk, and clears cache. Test a few of your apps and see if the same issue with the camera continues. Here's how to restart in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If you're still having issues after testing in safe mode, testing in a new user may help your apps run without any issue. Sometimes user specific permission issues may keep the software from properly loading, and temporarily creating a new user, then testing may help. Here's how to set up a test administrator account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Let us know the result.

Take care!

Hi Joseph,

many thanks for your support! I tried both options but unfortunately the problem is not solved or fixed:

  1. Start in safe mode: the camera is not recognised at all by the software (facetime, etc.) and no green flashing
  2. Guest mode/new user: I start any kind of software using the camera, the camera does not work but the green flashing happens

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Thomas
