Hi there, I have an older iMac and a newer Macbook Pro. As I'm working from home I'd like to use the iMac as a second screen. I've seen some how-to's about it online and I bought all the necessary apple cables and keyboard even but it doesn't seem to work. Does someone know how to get it to work? Thank you so much!

Keep in mind that the 2009 27" iMac supports Mini DisplayPort cables and not Thunderbolt 2 cables.

It won't work, Target Display Mode was discontinued in 2015. If your MBP needs an external display, please buy one.
You're welcome. Yea' your kind of lucky to have a Late 2009-2010 27" iMac with Mini DisplayPort. The later 2011-2014 iMac's with Thunderbolt, won't work as displays for 2019 and 2020 Mac's.
