I'm trying to get access to an old iphone 8, but when I connect to Itunes, it says error occurred

What is the exact error? Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed on the computer? See if this helps with the computer recognizing the iPhone. If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
