Internal Superdrive

Since I updated OS X 10.6 to 11.6 El Captain, the internal DVD stopped functioning. When I checked the list of devices, the DVD was not there.

external dvd drive I'm asking this question again because I've seen conflicting answers elsewhere: the superdrive in my 2011 iMac (osHigh Sierra) just stopped working (physically does not accept disk, can't push in). I've tried possible solutions posted elsewhere, no luck. System reports sees the drive, disk utility does not. Can I just plug in a cheap external dvd drive (eg: LG Slim Portable 8x USB 2.0 External DVD+/-RW)? Or any more steps to make the external work? Thanks.

MacBook Pro does not see my new SuperDrive. Help I have an older MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inch, Mid 2014) running Catalina. Today I received a new SuperDrive CD/DVD and I cannot get my Mac to "see" it. I've tried restarts without success.

My Apple Superdrive stopped burning CD-Rs on 11.2.3. I have ordered a new drive, but could it be the OS? Worked fine until I went to 11.2.3. Maybe it's coincidental?

You should try to upgrade to the last version available, if it doesn’t work you can restore the previous OS via backup or contact Apple support
