iPhone 12 overheating

My new iPhone 12 overheats with minimal use. Not while charging, but a 10 min FaceTime call made it hot (not even warm) to touch. In addition to this, the 12 won’t connect to my CarPlay? Does it this model no longer connect to CarPlay via a chord? I can only see the option to connect wireless which my car can’t do
