Screensaver preferences crashing 2017 15"MBP

So a week or 2 ago I changed my screensaver from 'word of the day' to 'Drift'.

I would get crashes (your mac restarted because of a problem) intermittently when it came out of screensaver/sleep mode.

At first I thought this was to do with a hardware peripheral (wacom cintiq plugged in using a usb+hdmi adaptor), so I left it unplugged to see if the issue resolved. I also updated to catalina 10.15.7. The mac still crashed ad rebooted when moving the mouse while the screensaver was on.

I now know it was the screensaver for certain, as I went to change it back to word of the day, and clicking a new screensaver forced the black screen of death.

Has anybody encountered this issue before? Is there a way to check the health of my video card?

Thanks

It could still be the Wacom driver. The driver still loads whether the tablet is plugged in or not.

Test while in Safe Mode.
