usb 3.1 storage device to a thunderbolt 2 input

Is there some convoluted way to hookup a usb 3.1 device to a thunderbolt 2 input? I have a late 2014 mini with usb 3.0 and thunderbolt 2. USB 3.1 provides faster transfer rate than 3.0 so I figure if I can utilize the thunderbolt input of the mini with a USB 3.1 device I might take advantage of the faster rate. I figure I'd at least need something to convert the plug but I'm guessing I might need else. So maybe if I find a USB 3.1 multiport device with a thunderbolt? I'd be happy if I could find a reasonably priced high capacity thunderbolt storage device but thats not going to happen.

Thanks

john
