iPhone 12 Pro Max camera freezing

Why is my iPhone 12 Pro Max camera freezing? It boots up slow and then freezes; comes back to life and then freezes over again. Pushing the camera button only makes it slow even more. To add: soft resetting the iPhone will fix the freezing temporarily but does it again after I open a few apps.

Let's start ruling out some possible causes:

You mentioned having an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the latest for it is iOS 14.3. You can verify which version number is installed within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
We understand this is only occurring with the built-in Camera app, but it'll also be a good idea to rule out if any other apps have an update available. This link shows how to Update apps or use automatic downloads.
