Why does Quicktime and Photoboth say "There is no camera connected"?
There is also no entry in the "security & privacy settings" for either of these apps. Why? How do I fix this?

FWIW, FaceTime, QuickTime Player nor Photo Booth would show in the Camera list. Nor do they need to. They all work for me.
You could try resetting the SMC. You could also try disabling Skype, Viber and Cisco to see if one of them is "stealing" the camera.
brsm, Based on that I expect that none of your video capable software will show video from the camera. The next troubleshooting item I would do is run diagnostics on your computer. You can do this by rebooting your computer and holding down the 'D' key during startup. Run the diagnostic utility and see if it reports back any issues. I've seen a couple of other posts in the forums about the camera not working. You might want to search to see if any posts show a fix for the issue.

Brsm, I'm not sure why this is happening but there are a couple of things that we can check. First does facetime see the camera? Also if you select "about this mac" from the apple menu and then click on the system report button. Now under the Hardware section look for the camera item, select it. It should show some information about your camera. What information does your computer show? In your screenshot you show Skype, can you make a video call with Skype?
I hope this helps.

None of that works. Another brand new ultra expensive apple product that's DOA. The diagnostics don't detect anything either, but the system report always says there is no camera. I guess I'm screwed.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the help.
System report says "No video capture devices were found." FaceTime doesn't see it either.
