my mac is running on 10.13.6 how do I update the software?

My Mac Book Pro is running on 10.13.6 and says there is no software update needed. looking at the apple website there is a newer update. how can I assure that my mac book is running on the latest software?

If your MacBook Pro is a 2011 or earlier model, it is already. Otherwise, back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur.
