Where , on the left panel, do you find the search box? I am looking now and can't find it. Not technically trained, sorry!! Please help!!!

In the Mail sidebar, having selected a mailbox in which to search, swipe downwards; this will reveal the Search dialogue at the top of the sidebar.

followed instructions, entered "test" in the search box, performed search. Went back to email. Delete key still doe snot work. Do I have to close and restart email to make this work?
Didn’t work, any other suggestions?
The instructions provided specifically addressed finding the Mail Search dialogue - nothing else.
