Ipad stuck on verifying update

How do I restart my ipad that is stuck on verifying update? I have pressed all of the buttons and nothing. It won't even let me slide the shut down option on the screen.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 14

If the device will not respond, you can try force restarting it with these steps: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

I have the same problem. You have rendered by brand new very expensive iPad Pro completely useless. It won’t turn off with all the recommended methods. This (automatic) update is a disgrace.
