have a old mac mini that I need to wipe the hard drive. how is this done?

How do I reformat my my mac mini hard drive? Late 2009 model

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

I was able to erase the HD and use the disc to install the operating system. When the system reboots after installation it just shows the Apple logo and never finishes. The reboot disc is still in the cd drive. I’m at a loss to get it out.

Use the restore CDs that came with the machine.

Boot from it (hold ALT).

Restart and hold own mouse button at the same time to eject disc. If using a tray CD drive use paperclip inserted in front hole to eject.
