Transferring photo albums from iMac to MacBook using iCloud

If you have iCloud turned on on both iMac and MacBook Air, how can you move the albums of photos from iMac to MacBook? Is it supposed to happen automatically? It does not seem to be doing that. The apple support materials aren't very clear on that point

Photos albums Problems transferring "My Albums" and "My Projects" to new MacBook. One of the reasons I got my new MacBook is that its bigger memory allows me to keep my Photos Library on board. Previously it was on an external drive. When I tried to transfer the Photos Library to my new MacBook, the process stalled twice at about 2/3 of the more than 300 gigs of photos. I finally, successfully, installed all the photos from iCloud. BUT: The "My Albums" and "My Projects" did not get transferred. I still have them on the external (which is almost up-to-date (as I've shot a few pictures since it was last used) also (I'm confident) in Time Machine. Question: How do I now get "My Albums" and "My Projects" into Photos on my new MacBook?

Syncing photos between iMac and MBP Hi, Is there an easy way to automatically sync photos between my iMac and MBP without the need to store the pictures on iCloud? Thanks

You need to set up the photos preferences as shown below on both devices. And then wait - it can take some time. My 50GB 6000 photo library took 48 hours of being on and connected to power and photos open.

Obviously you also need enough iCloud space to hold your whole library.
