How to install "Samsung SCX-3405W Printer" on M1 MacBook Air MacOS Big Sur? Thanks😀
Hey Bro!
I solved it by this instruction:
***
It means, that you need to install Samsung SL-M2070 driver on your mac.
(Samsung Universal Print DriverV3.93.01 19.7 MB Feb 11, 2021)
Solve "Defender installation problem" with Instruction above using terminal.app
After that, install MAC_Printer > Printer driver.pkg and MAC_ICDM > ICDM.pkg
Than you can add Samsung SCX-3405W via USB cable (System preferences > Printers & scanners, +add)
Good luck and enjoy this solution! I hope U be HAPPY! Cheers!
PS: Also you can use VueScan app for a better and faster scanning

Hi,
According to About AirPrint - Apple Support, the (Samsung) HP SCX-3405W is an AirPrint model. This means that it can be used without a driver. So, you may want to try to add the SCX-3405W as an AirPrint printer. The printer and the computer (and iPhones/iPads) must be connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

Hi sidsiu,
First of all, I assume that the printer and the computer are connected to a Wi-Fi router, and that these connections as such are OK.
Are you sure that the SCX-3405W has been added as an AirPrint printer? I do not have good pictures for this printer, but you could perhaps compare to the images (for an earlier OS) for a printer series from another manufacturer (https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/apple_airprint_guide/#Pmac). Anything about Bonjour or AirPrint?
Some details in the Add a printer on Mac article (link in my first message). You may have to remove existing drivers and/or try to reset the printing system (also, link above).
I do not know whether or not AirPrint must be separately enabled on the SCX-3405W. Any AirPrint setting, for example, in the SyncThru Web Service (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05786719#G14.4944743)?
In order to properly recognise an AirPrint printer, the router must be able to handle (IPP and) Bonjour/mDNS. Modern routers should do that. If necessary, check the router settings.
You may also want to do this: Power off the router, the printer, the computer, and all other computers/devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait another two or three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the computer (and all other computers/devices).
It is also possible to carry out a simple test using an iPhone/iPad (connected to the same W-Fi router). If you choose to print from an iPhone/iPad, a list of selectable AirPrint printers should appear. If your printer is there, you could try to print (without using an extra app) from the iPhone/iPad. If this works, you know that the printer is correctly acting as an AirPrint printer.
Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
The exact model is in fact mentioned in the About AirPrint - Apple Support, but as HP SCX-3405W.
It should be possible to reach the SyncThru Web Service (see, for example, pp. 140 and 271 in http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05786719#G14.4944743) through the use of any browser when the printer is connected to a router. If necessary, you could even try with another computer. You will need to know the IP address of the printer. Have you tried to print a Network Configuration Report (see page 141 in the above manual)?
If necessary (and if supported by a router), WPS could be used for the wireless setup. If you have access to another (spare) router, you may want to carry out some comparative tests there (Bonjour/mDNS, IPP).
Hi Sidsu,
I have the Big Sur since yesterday and the print function works for me. I got it working like this:
3.Select and add
That worked for me after the upgrade.
BUT I am struggling getting the scanner working. When using the scanner function through the Printers & Scanners menu I am able to see a preview:
But when trying to save it to a file in different folders i have tried I am getting following error:
I have the assumption that the driver have no permissions to write the file on the disk. Does anyone where to look for the logs or has anyone more experience on that area?
Hi Jan,
Thanks for your advice. I try to connect my Samsung SCX-3405W printer by entering its IP address and selecting SCX-3400 Series from the list. It seems there is connection between my MacBook Air and printer. However, no paper comes out when I try to print something from the Page 🥺. Just don't know what goes wrong. Any professional advise from you? Cheers😀
Hi I also have a Samsung SCX-3405W printer. I'm trying to connect to MacBook Pro with Big Sur 11.0.1. but I can't seem to get it work. I can only print when connected via USB cable but would like to use it wirelessly. The software from the manufacturer is not available for Big Sur and Apple can't recognize it either. Any suggestions?
The printer doesn't show up under AirPrint options on my iPhone. The model number is not on the list of AirPrint printers in a link above. I think my router model is Sagemcom Fast 5566.
When I try to download the software from HP website I can only download the latest version for Mac OS which is 10.4 I believe.
I can download the wireless setting app however Big Sur is blocking me from opening it. I contacted another Apple support agent and we tried to unlock settings for the app but still nothing. Was told to contact HP support to see if they know how to allow access for this printer model for Big Sur users.
Hello again,
See page 141 in the manual (link above). There are three methods, depending on the printer. Is it possible to print a Network Configuration Report using one of these methods?
Since I do not know exactly what your printer looks like (there are several SCX-340x variants), is there a WPS button on the control panel? Does the printer have a display screen? See pp. 159 to 162 in the manual for information about two WPS methods.
Also, the firmware version on the printer may affect the ability to use AirPrint. Do you know which firmware version the printer is using?
I should perhaps add that this is a user to user forum, and I am a user just like you, but without access to this exact printer.
Addendum
Pictures of the SCX-3405W model show a WPS button on the control panel. There is also a small window with a counter, but is does not look like a full status display.
Regarding firmware: The HP support page for the SCX-3405W (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-scx-3405-laser-multifunction-printer-series/17157049/model/17157054) has a firmware file V3.00.02.05 with a release date Sep 1, 2017 (file name SCX3405W_V3.00.02.05.zip). This firmware file can be seen if you choose Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1 as the operating system. A Windows PC appears to be needed in order to carry out an update. I would suggest that you contact HP and ask them whether this file is suitable and contains the latest firmware for your printer. We cannot rule out that your printer already has firmware capable of handling AirPrint. Do not install anything unless necessary. If you decide to update the firmware, make sure that you follow all instructions from the printer manufacturer to the letter.
Hi!!! thank you a lot @sashabudd! I did the "Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.01.dmg" and afterwards "ICDM.pkg" installation. I added the "Samsung SCX-3405W Printer" as usually but per USB and the scanner started working!!! Afterwards I tested my old Wifi installation I used in the past and also started working. I am very happy that I don't have to through my working printer away just because of the Big Sur upgrade.
No such luck for me. Although I got much farther than I did before I still can’t print. I can use the scanner when connnected with USB but can’t print and can’t print or scan wirelessly. I downloaded the printer driver and the icdm.pkg. When I add the printer in settings it autoselects the SCX 3400 series driver but then when I try to print the print queue says fail and I have to manually cancel. Not sure what I did wrong. I have Big Sur version 11.1
Hi @raffisr
I have ended up with a broker printing also today. A scanner works without issues, but printing stops with "Filter failure" and that's it. I even contacted Apple Support to point me to someplace under the hood of macOS, but no luck. Apple Support suggested addressing this issue to HP (a successor of Samsung printers for some reason).
I have tried AirPrint, IPP and USB connection. Everything failed to print.
And, at HP Printing Community I have found this post -- https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Samsung/OSX-Catalina-driver-for-SCX-3504W/m-p/7842601/highlight/true#M5148
I have followed the instructions and bingo - my printer works!
Make sure you select Samsung M2070 Series Driver as the post suggests.
P.S. Scanning works without issues also.
Hello,
To begin with, please check each step in my above replies to sidsiu. Do you have an iPhone/iPad to use for a test? Router model?
How do I find the IP address for the printer?
How do I connect the printer to router through WPS?
