Have just tested the site provided Catalina 10.15.7 on Safari 14.0.2 and extension Ads and Stuff Blocker version 4.4.4 Enabled in Safari. The Two Adds in you posting are not there. See below Screen Shot

Recommendations? Ad-block Plus is available for Mac in App Store and as an extension for Chrome.

My opinion? 4 out of 5 stars.

With the extensive amount of resources that chrome uses, Ad-block plus further hammers down my poor 8gb of ram. It should meet your day to day needs though. A lot of news sites will detect and tell you to turn it off. Works fine in any other situation.

VPN you can buy online is pointless and a security risk, passing all your data through goodness-knows-who’s servers.

Like said originally

  • No VPN (I hope you uninstalled the one shown in Etrecheck)
  • No security apps
  • No cleaner apps

You will be quite safe with Mac's Gatekeeper, the inbuilt antivirus and the inbuilt system integrity protection.

If you suspect malware/adware then Malwarebytes free version can scan for them as required and then uninstalled from the help menu. (I wouldn't install the paid-for version which runs in the background like Avast)

Etrecheck can also be run occasionally to check for junk and performance and to ensure the three built-in Apple protections are turned on.

Both these tools are recommended by the community.

You already have at least one adblocker installed. Clean it or them out first.

You also have Malwarebytes, probably running in the background as well as Catalina’s own antivirus. Using two security apps running at once is not a good idea.

I know you paid for that version of Malwarebytes but the free version would have been better in my opinion and used to scan only if adware is suspected.

Frank ( if I may address you by your name ) If willing, post back to this message with the specific webpage that is causing the unwanted issue ( adverts ). Will check it out on Big Sur via Safari with the Ads and Stuff Blocker extension. Then, will take a Screen Shot and post back as pert of a reply. It will be up to you to compare and see what is the same or different. At least this way we an determine where the issue may be.

Very Best

Frank - to be honest this Ad Blocker was used my High Sierra with Safari and was no better than Ads and Stuff Blocker that was suggested previously. In fact the AdBlocker Plus with Microsoft Edge installed on High Sierra and Safari alerted by High Sierra that it contained Malware. Quickly uninstalled both MS Edge and AdBlocker Pus and ran a Malware scanner

You are taking intrusion protection to a level above what IMO is really required. Safari will do a lot of tracking protection you may not get with the failing Firefox (your other post)

Peter,

I have Ghostery lite and deleted all those already. It still shows on the report for a month at least. I had a clean report but had to try which one works and none work been using Ghosty lite for a long time before that I was using plain Ghosty and that worked out great I still have that on my Firefox and works great no problems there on Firefox. I do not know why Safari can not be like Firefox that is a better browser than Safari. I only use Safari care all my book marks are there otherwise I would not use Safari.

Thank you as well.
