phone tv connection not working

I cannot stream from my iphone 11 or 7 to my apple tv. I also cannot add apps to it like CBC Gem or CTV

ok the only thing I haven't done is plug it directly into the box. All other times it starts and crashes or it plays the volume but not the video.
