can't send or receive SMS messages

Am I the only one not able to receive or send SMS/MMS messages? I've been having this issue since updating to iOS 14.3 on my iphone 8plus, 11 and my macpro. I've done all the suggestions and still nothing. It's not just an inconvenience of missing texts. It's an issue when I can't sign in to other applications because of two-factor authentication. Verizon has been no help but I don't think it's their problem in the first place.

Thanks to all for your input and recommendations. ATT escalated and I have not heard back after 3 days. Spent an hour on the phone with apple and they recommended I backup and factory reset which I did not do. I decided to turn on wifi calling while connected to my home wifi just hoping to get some of the important messages when I am at home. Group messages, text alerts, and two factor authorization started working immediately. Disconnected from WiFi calling and everything continued to work fine afterwards. About 24 hours later I received all 112 missed group messages, text alerts and authorization codes from the past couple of days.

If you read the description of 14.3 it is supposed to be a fix for this issue caused by earlier versions of 14. Funny how 14.3 actually caused the issue for my two phones and countless others who never had the problem. Cannot see how this isn’t an Apple issue.

Anyway, hopefully this is helpful to others who are having this issue.

Ghost - I finally got the issue resolved through Verizon. After spending another hour on the phone and no resolution, they entered a ticket which was escalated higher up in IT. I have no idea how the fixed it but I started receiving SMS messages the following day. You should probably do the same with AT&T. Just make sure you back up your phone before they do anything!!!

Hi sharonfrommedina,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to send or receive any SMS messages. In order to use SMS messages, you do need a connection to your cellular network to do so. Check out this article which will show you how to troubleshoot this behavior further: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We hope this helps.

Take care!

Thanks Leanne_68,

Actually, I’ve already done all of these things. And I’ve reset the network settings, purchased a new phone, got a new SIM card for the NEW phone that’s 3 days old, completely erased all data - three times - and reset up the phone. I’ve spent countless hours with Verizon tech support by phone, chat and in store. All my settings are correct. I’m asking if anyone else is having issues sending or receiving non-iPhone sms messages while connected to WiFi/cellular networks. My phone was working fine before I updated to iOS 14.3 but I know there were some issues with 14.1 & 14.2 for some users and those issues have been addressed. Is this a new issue and are there any workarounds?

Thank you - Sharon
