manually resetting image numbering

iPhone 11 - I would like to reset the camera image numbering so that it does not conflict with the numbering on my iPad. Is there a way to restart the iPhone numbering at 2000 instead of automatically going to 0001.

To paraphrase my somewhat verbose question above........... I would like a way to control my images in PS Organizer - by idevice, and in chronological order.

The Photos step, is only a step along the way to get the idevice images onto my iMac, that is all! Thank you for your hint above.....but when I use View it only changes what I am able to see in "Get Info"...and, by individual image!

I guess that reading between the lines, the answer is......... there is no way (YET), to change the image numbering sequence in my idevices!!! I'll have to go your suggested route and put in a request in the Enhancements and Improvements Dept.

Thanks, and have a Good Day.

As a woodturner I like to take pictures of the pieces I am turning from start to finish for later reference. I use whichever idevice is handy for this. The idevices are connected to iCloud so the images appear in Photos where I then Export them to Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer and then use PS Elements Editor for whatever project I am working on.

I use the image numbering systems to sequence the images in Organizer as a quick and effortless way to put them into chronological order within their respective idevices. At the present time the numbering on the iPad Air and the iPhone 11 are too close and I want to separate the number sequences to make life simple. Either one has to be re-started from 2000 to give a nice spread for the future.

The numbering is not visible until I get into PS Organizer where I can define it as data showing up under the images. I can get to it on Photos but only on an individual basis in "Get Info" which shows some of the Exif data. And I have yet to find a way to use the image numbers as a control in Photos.

Hello Harrington,

We appreciate the additional detail on your inquiry and how it factors into your work.

We understand that you are looking for more control in Photos through the use of image numbers. You mentioned that numbering is not visible in Photos unless you "Get Info" on each individual picture to view its metadata.

One step you can try to reduce the need to "Get Info" on each picture to view its metadata is by enabling metadata options in the View menu. By using the metadata options in the View menu, metadata information about each picture, such as their title or filename is displayed in Photos. Check the "Display titles, other metadata, and badges" section of this resource to learn more: Add titles, captions, and more to photos using Photos on Mac

While this may not be the extensive control you're looking for, we do hope it helps improve your workflow. In the meantime, we encourage you to provide feedback on enhancements and improvements you'd like to see in future Photos updates using this link: Photos

Thank you!
