Can't upgrade to Big Sur

I'm currently running Mojave 10.14.6, when I go to system preferences, updates, it prompts me to download Big Sur (only available upgrade). I get a message that states I need to be running 10.15 or later to install; I can't find it, more frustrating, if the system recognizes what version I have and what I need to get to the BS download, why not provide THAT update to I can download? suggestions? Thank you.

Verify you have a Mac that supports Big Sur...(?)

Verify you are using Safari to initiate the links:

Big Sur—Press release states that you will need 35.5 GB of free storage when upgrading from High Sierra or newer, and 44.5 GB when upgrading from an older versions.

Big Sur macOS 11.1

If you still have an issue do it from a Safe Boot

SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test as caches get rebuilt.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.
