Java Launcher unable to start JAR file

Hi,

I have to use an application that gets provides as a JAR archive. Java is installed properly and everything can be started in Terminal without any issues.

However, when I try to simply launch the JAR file by opening it in Finder using the default "Java Launcher" association, the first this the Java Launcher gives an unknown error. Trying this the second time nothing happens at all. Checking the logs does not reveal any information why the JAR cannot be launched using the Java Launcher.

Since I already had several issues with macOS security preventing stuff from getting executed or loaded, I tried to move the JAR into my user's "Application"-folder /Users/<username>/Application" and voila the Launcher was able to start the JAR file's Java application without any error.

Is that the expected behaviour in Big Sur? If yes, a more sophisticated error message from the Java Launcher would help fixing the problem. Or is there another way to allow Java applications run using the default "open with" action for JAR files?

Cheers!

BTW: It doesn't matter if you use OpenJDK or Oracle's JDK. Both show the same behaviour.
