Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, your iPad is dinging and the battery icon is flashing when in use. Does this happen when you're charging your iPad? If so, check the port for signs of dirt/debris as that can cause connection issues. Here's a guide on cleaning, just in case: How to clean your Apple products
If you have another charging cable or USB adapter try with another to help rule out an issue with those.
