Some Thoughts:
A. Problems with Embedded Videos:
"Not being able to watch embedded videos (in Twitter, IG, FB, etc. Can only watch videos on YouTube. Everywhere else, I just get a paused screen.)"
Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:
Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for video) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM.
B. Problems with Zoom:
"No video on Zoom calls - My camera is connected, but just shows my screen as black, and all other participants."
Zoom has Issues:
Zoom is somewhat new, and the issues you speak of are commonly mentioned on these forums. So, Zoom probably has yet to do its part in Big Sur.
C. Login Issues:
"I'm unable to log in to my Apple ID. If I try to click on 'log in' I just nothing happens and I just get that annoying 'donk' sound."
Try Safe Mode:
[Hold Down command key + R key] simultaneously upon boot. In Safe Mode, corrupted system setting files (caches), are intentionally fixed.
- Boot: in Safe Mode
- Log In: as Same User
- Wait: 30 seconds
- Shut Down: the Mac
- Wait: 30 seconds
- Boot: the Mac normally
- Log In: as Same User
- See if can get this to work
D. Running Slow:
"Things generally running slow. I got the spinning beach ball twice already in the last hour, with nothing open except 2 or 3 Chrome tabs."
Run First Aid:
Check the status of your internal hard drive. See if it needs to be replaced. To check, run First Aid In Recovery Mode.
Boot into Recovery Mode:
- Hold Down: command + R upon boot.
- Go in to: Disk Utilities
- Select: the hard drive
- Click: First Aid
E. Slow Data Transfer:
"I didn't transfer any data over from my MacBook Pro, so the only files I have are a few PPT presentations, a dozen or so Word docs, and a couple of PDFs."
Create a New Administrator User:
See if you still get this error - if so, then it is something misconfigured in your current user. If that fixes this, then transfer everything over to the new user, ridding of this current user.
To Create an Admin:
- Go to: System Preferences
- Click: Users & Groups
- Unlock: the Lock
- Press: the "+" button
- Add: an Administrator User
