Android Studio

I purchased a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip and am using Android Studio on it. Android Studio was installed using the Migration Assistant from an older MacBook Pro.

The laptop will randomly lock up (getting the spinning beachball of death) multiple times over the course of an hour. Oftentimes I lose the last bit of work I has on (I did set the Android Studio autosave down to a couple seconds to try to prevent the lost). Twice Android Studio just crashed completely (no beach ball). It just disappeared.

I never had this problem on my old MacBook (from 2010!)

The only saving grace is the M1 machine is fast so I submit every crash report to Apple. Come on guys! Figure out the problem!

Anyone having/had the same issue and is there any fix?

Hello EFoertsch,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with Android Studio on your MacBook Pro with Big Sur installed. Have you tried the suggestions provided in, If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac? If not, give those a try.

Should you continue to experience issues, try testing the app when booted into safe mode. This process will prevent your Mac from loading certain software during startup as well as perform basic checks, similar to First Aid.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

Once testing in safe mode is completed, go ahead and restart your Mac and test it again after a normal startup.

Best regards.
