Can I use my macbook power adapter for my iphone 12 mini
I have a fairly new macbook with a 60w usb-c power adapter. I have just bought an iPhone 12 mini, which has the new cable. Do I really need to buy another adapter?

No, you can use the MacBook power adapter safely. Nice thing about Apple power products; you can safely use any Apple power source with any other Apple product as long as the plugs fit.
