Apparently bought a stolen iphone from backmarket

Bought an iPhone and a few days ago it was blocked from network. I did an IMEI check and the phone came back as "blacklisted" "reported as lost or stolen". I contacted seller and they said they just sent the wrong model. I'm calling BS. They want me to return it for a refund. I don't feel comfortable with this as some poor soul is missing her phone.

They just get a report. The supervisor told me my only recourse was to “go to the person who sold it to you and try to get your money back. If they don’t give it to you, report them to the police.” When I told him it was bought from Apple new, he reiterated those two lines. I asked how do I report it as not stolen. Same two lines. I’m happy to show my passport in person, with a tax bill showing I’m me, but to who? The police? I’d love to see that “not stolen” police report. How do I fix this? [Re-titled by Moderator]

PURCHASED A STOLEN PHONE i recently purchased an iphone 14 for my secondary line and it was stolen and i cant get my money back because the person that sold it to me blocked me. im honestly just trying to get his information so that i could handle it properly or return the phone.

hello I bought a phone on swappa I have receipt and can provide evidence hello I bought a phone online but once i tried to take it to my carrier it said that it was stole or missing how can i go about this should i just get my money back or can I make this phone work

You have no way of finding the original owner. Chances are they've already moved on.

Limit your own exposure and get your money back from the seller and never do business with them again. You can report them to the authorities if you like, including any online site if you bought it online, but that's about all you can do.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do about it. With lock the person who lost the phone had insurance.
