How do I change the default Apple ID in App Store

Every time there is an update in the App Store it automatically links to my other Apple ID. And when I go to change it to the Apple ID linked to everything on the main account in my MacBook Air it doesn’t understand and keeps asking me for the password when it has been typed in correctly. It won’t accept the change in Apple ID and then reverts back to the default. For info I have never set up the default on this computer except in a different account. Help please!

Those purchases are tied to the other ID and can't be transferred. One option is to delete the apps/purchases made by the other ID and download them using the new ID if desired. If necessary, check your purchases history to see which apps/purchases weren’t made by the current ID.

Or you can try to set up Family Sharing between the IDs to keep access to your purchases.
