Unable to Activate iphone XR

Unable to Activate iphone XR with iTunes without sim after factory reset. Removed icloud activation lock. iphone has a faulty sim reader and hence cannot read sim. I would like to gift phone to my kids to use as a tablet.

Problem with iPhone activation I can't activate my iPhone XS. I wanted to reset it to factory settings and leave it as a second phone for example to use maps, but after the reset I can't activate it. I tried to do it using MAC but it didn't help. I think it may be due to earlier problems with reading the SIM card (that's why I switched to a newer model). Can I do something about it?

Get it repaired or recycle it.
