Almost all free trials convert automatically to paid subscriptions when the trial period is over, unless you actively cancel them. That is standard in the subscription business. I won't get into my opinion about the practice other than to say I have almost no software subscriptions.
If your payment method was actually charged, you can ask for a refund. Normally, all sales are considered final, but you can ask for a refund.
