Extending AppleCare for my iPhone

This page is about "Extend your AppleCare+ coverage"

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210580

I'm in the USA.

When I go to MySupport there is no option for extending coverage

When I follow the instructions here for updating it on my phone, there is no option or link for extending the coverage.

How do I do it?

iPhone 8, iOS 14

My phone said AppleCare had expired yesterday, but there was no option for buying a month-to-month plan.

Today, the phone still does not have the upgrade option

However, my support.apple.com does have the upgrade option.

So, I did not purchase Applecare+ immediately after getting my repaired phone.

Today Settings/General/About/Coverage says "Expired"

On mysupport.apple.com it still shows that my coverage is good through today.

I called apple support and the nice lady there explained that it is in her system "not expired" but that I cannot buy new monthly AppleCare until it actually does expire. (confirming the earlier call)

Supposedly, I will be able to update my coverage tomorrow (17 Feb), although the nice lady said maybe have to wait for the 18th.

It is suppose to work from my phone.

If it doesn't then it is suppose to work from mysupport.apple.com

If it doesn't, then I'm suppose to search for Applecare and enter my serial number.

The screenshot below was taken on 1 Feb, the day I received my repaired phone.

This option no longer shows up (15 days later)

Hello John,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We’re happy to help out today with your question about AppleCare+ coverage.

Did you get AppleCare+ when you first purchased your iPhone? If so, you should be able to get the Extending AppleCare+. Have you tried going to Settings > General > About, then tap the name of your AppleCare plan?

If you didn’t purchase AppleCare+, you will not see the option for extending the standard coverage that comes with your iPhone.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Cheers!

One has to read the "fine print" carefully:

In Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, you can purchase the new coverage within 30 days of the end date of your original coverage.

Today is 18 Jan. My Applecare+ will expire on 16 Feb. From my perspective I am "within 30 days of the end date".

However, after a 15 minute chat; 15 minutes waiting for a scheduled call back; 20 minutes waiting for the support tech to look into the situation further; 5 minutes of very carefully rereading the document above.

IT APPEARS that one must wait until after the expiration date to update coverage.

Anyway, that is what the technician stated. We had a somewhat heated discussion about it while I re-read the support page several times.

"within 30 days of the end date" can be interpreted to mean before the end date or after the end date.

IMHO though, expired means expired and I have little faith that I will be successful on 16 Feb in extending coverage.

I am not a happy camper.

I took my iPhone in for a cracked screen.

The folks discovered water damage inside the phone.

I now have a new phone. (Let us not discuss how difficult it was to download my backed up phone from the iCloud and my mac. It was so complicated I'm not sure exactly what I did. I am sure it took over 6 hours to complete.)

Anyway, the new phone is giving me 60 days to buy 2 years worth @ $200 or do a month to month. @ $9.50. (theft included)

The options are presented as described in the link above.

The limited warrantee is good for a year.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do since I think I want to get a bigger phone. But I don't want face recognition. So...
