You go to Settings/[your name]/iCloud and turn off Find My. If it is not showing your name you need the Apple ID and password that were used to enable Find My. Without that there is no way to turn it off.

No, I did not set un an alternate. I wish i did now, seeing how hard this is. The "new" insurance company want this feature (find my phone) turned off so they can send me a new one. Its ridiculous. The phone is completely smashed. If i could get a new phone, I could sign in and delete the app on my old phone. Can't even do that. I did change the recovery phone number already, but it can take up to 24 hours. Im lucky if I can have my phone by next week.
