How do I hide a contact without delet ing them

You can’t hide a contact. The best to hope for is to change the name of the contact to something innocuous.

Linked contacts are not a way of hiding contacts. And it's not a "sneaky" function. What it does is link two contacts that have the same information but that come from different accounts. All this does is keep the Contacts app from shown duplicates. For example, I have contacts from my Gmail account, my Outlook account and my iCloud account. Where the same person exists in both accounts, those two entries will be linked. And it's hardly a hidden feature as you can see at the bottom of the contact entry if it's linked multiple contacts.

Sometimes (very rarely), Contacts makes a mistake and links two contacts that are not actually the same. In that case, you can unlink them if you prefer.

Absolutely NOT from an iPhone. Yes, you can put the SIM in a different phone and store a contact on it. But the only way to view that contact is to import it into your iPhone contacts, where it is then no longer hidden.

That is not accurate, SvarankrA.. Contacts ARE stored locally on iPhones and iPads. I can have my wifi off and my iPhone in airplane mode still use my contacts. And they are stored in i cloud under "Contacts" as anyone who has ever viewed the contents of their iCloud can attest.

Contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you have Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other
