Photos Desktop Alias?

I am preparing to move files to a new computer. I'm confused about what appears to be a Photos alias on my desktop. Since I see the Photo app in the dock, why would I also have a Photos icon on my desktop? How can I tell if it is just an alias? Thank you.

An alias has a small, curved arrow in the lower left hand corner of the icon.

Also an alias will be only 25 KB in size.

A 3rd way is to Control (right) - click on the suspected alias and select "Show Original" from the contextual menu. If is is an alias "Show Original" will be an option of the contextual menu.
