Cannot update certain free apps on my iPhone 6s. Tried to delete and reinstall but can't do that either. Stuck! What can I do next?

You need a valid payment method in your Apple ID account, even to download free apps. If you have no apps with in-app purchases and no subscriptions you might be able to remove your payment method, but if you have one it must be valid.

Ah, OK. Go to Settings/Screen Time/Content & Privacy Restrictions/iTunes & App Store Purchases and change the settings to Allow.
Thanks Lawrence! Followed your instructions and was able to delete and reinstall all 13 updated apps successfully! Curious and maybe you know..... is the fact that is am using an older iPhone the reason I encountered this issue? Otherwise, I am at a loss as to why this happened.
At some time in the past that setting was changed in Screen Time. It’s not the default. Although I’ve seen several similar issues recently, so maybe it was inadvertently flipped when updating.
Thanks Lawrence! I reviewed my payment method. It is correct but to be safe I updated expiration date of the card. I still cannot update 13 free apps. I rebooted my iPhone 6s and it changed nothing. I only have one direct bill/payment and that is for iCloud storage. It shows up every month on statement.
When I try to delete those 13 apps to reinstall it won't let me. The x does not appear when I hold down the app icon. All the icons begin to jiggle but the x doesn't come on.
If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate them. I have followed directions from iPhone on Google but nothing is working so far.
