Receiving photos via text messages

Up until recently, I have had no problems receiving and viewing photos attached to text messages on my iPhone 7. Suddenly, they are now coming attached to text messages as downloadable images only. These are coming from the same receipients as previously and their technique - whether they start the text message and attached a photo form their gallery or select a photo, then create a text message - doesn't make a difference.

So I end up with a text message and a "tap to download" link. I tap the link and it downloads, but I have no idea where these images are going.

Is this an adjustment in settings so that the image is shown on my phone w/the text message?

Greetings Mark455!

Looks like you are having some trouble with getting photos in text messages on your device. We can absolutely understand how this would be an issue, let's see what we can do to get it resolved. Does this issue occur when using Wi-Fi as well as cellular data? That can help determine if this is network related. Also what iOS version are you running? Updating can help for issues with default apps on the device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Take care!
