iMessage trouble

I'm setting up my new iPhone 12 Max. I've transferred all data but the new phone will not finish verifying my number for iMessage? Is there something I need to do to fix this?

Try turning off iMessage in Settings, Messages,

restart the phone,

then turn it back on
