AppleTV Series 2 remote not working

Have an AppleTV Series 2 and the remote no longer works. Have tried all the suggestions in the Guide but still not working. Help please.

It could be that the battery needs replacing. How to replace the battery in your Apple Remote - Apple Support

It could be that the remote needs to be linked again. If your Apple TV remote isn’t working - Apple Support

You don’t need to go into Settings to link the remote.

If your Apple TV remote isn’t working - Apple Support

Do all the steps. Don’t skip step 1.

Thank you for these suggestions. We have changed the battery.

We are unable to get into settings on the TV to pair or unpair the remote.

Point remote to the device, press a button on the remote & no response from Apple box.

The TV recognised there was an Apple box. It requested connection to the Internet which required us going into settings. And again back to the remote which would not work.
