Airdrop live photo's

Dear

Re: When I use airdrop to transfer photo's from my iphone 11 to my Macbook air (which I can only choose as 'apparatus'), the pop up window asking if I want to open them in Photo or in Finder does not appear. The consequence is that they open in finder as still pictures, and I cannot export live photo's anymore. It used to work a while ago...

If I airdrop to my daughters airbook, I can choose her as 'person' and not as 'apparatus', and the pop up window appears where she can chose to open them in Photos as live picture. If she airdrops from her iphone to her macbook, it does not work (only choice is 'apparatus'), but if she airdrops to my macbook, it is again possible... (so I workaround is if I airdrop to her, and she airdrops to me :-)).

Thanks

Hi there Bartmotmans,

From what we can tell, when attempting to send photos to yourself via AirDrop from your iPhone to your Mac, you don't see the option to approve, deny, or select which app the photos will be saved to. If we've got that correct, the behavior you're experiencing may be normal.

"If you AirDrop something to yourself, like a photo from your iPhone to your Mac, you won't see an option to Accept or Decline — it'll automatically get sent to your device. Just make sure that both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID." Learn more from the link below:

Use AirDrop to share photos from Photos on Mac

Keeping that in mind, are you able to click the LIVE button in the bottom-left corner of the photo on your Mac after opening the photo in Finder? The link below provides more information, specifically the section entitled 'How to share your Live Photos':

Take and edit Live Photos

Also, you'll want to be sure to review all the steps in the 'Before you begin' section of our support article below:

Cheers.
