Files importing from CD but not from hard drive

Hi,

I'm trying to put my music onto a hard drive and having an interesting issue.

When I put the CD into the drive, I can import the music into iTunes and the files play fine.

But when I put the CD files onto an External Hard Drive I can't add them to my iTunes library, even though the files are accepted from the CD itself.

Anyone know why this is and if I can do anything about it?

Thanks!

Windows, Windows 10

Are you copying the .cda files from the CD to the external drive? A .cda file acts as a pointer to a file on an audio CD, it doesn't actually contain any music and cannot be imported to iTunes. You should rip the CDs using iTunes. If you have other issues adding media from an external drive see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows - Apple Community.
