External monitor isn't working on windows 10 bootcamp, but works fine on mac.

I have an hp z22i ips display, and when i connect it to mac, it works fine. But when i switch over to windows 10, it says no signal. Windows 10 sees the monitor, but in intel command center it says that it's disabled, and in windows 10 settings it says 'display 2 isn't active'.

Most USBc (not Thunderbolt3) cables are passive and rely on the drivers. Many USBc adapters will strip DP from the connection, if they also have an HDMI output, instead of passing them through. In your case, you are also converting HDMI-to-DVI, which breaks HDCP.

If you have a USBc-to-DP cable, and are able to eliminate the Saetchi, it will help eliminate the extra hop (in Windows case). The drivers for macOS and Windows are different.

For example, see [Bootcamp Win10] USB-C to Displayport con… - Apple Community as reference. Unless the adapter(s) clearly state that they will pass DP over USBc, I assume they will not.

On a 2018 rMBP, if I directly connect a USBc-to-DP cable, I get DP output, but if I use SMK-Link-Mini-Docking-Station-VP6920 (similar to Saetchi, and uses a RealTek chipset), the USBc Output does not support DP. I can connect the HDMI to the same monitor for a 2K connection.

There is not much of a difference between the 2018 and 2016 USBc Macs, when outputting DP or HDMI protocol. The same thing is true for the Apple USBc-to-DigitalAV adapter.

Please try the direct cable and test. You should still be able to connect USB devices to the Saetchi hub, and also use the HDMI output.

Another test would be to connect the HDMI output of Saetchi to a HDMI TV and verify that you will get display output correctly (without the DVI conversion). Most modern TVs with HDMI, should support HDCP.

After i connected it to my tv, it suddenly also worked on the monitor, but with a lot of weird pixels and the screen keeps going black for a second or two, wich didn't happen on mac.
Edit: with weird pixels i mean flashing yelow or green 'glitching' pixels all over the screen

The synchronization between the monitor and the BC/Windows driver seems to be a problem. From https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/2b64795, it says 50-76Hz Vertical, and 24-94kHz Horizontal.

Can you run a SMC reset on the Mac and retry?

Your monitor has (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03790666#AbT4)

  • One VGA connector
  • One DVI connector
  • One DisplayPort connector (cable inclusion varies by region)

If you are using a HDMI-to-DVI cable, you may see HDCP-related issues. The Saetchi adapter is HDMI 1.4b. If you have a USBc-to-DP connector, try that as an option. Some adapters that have an HDMI out, may not allow DP output over USBc output.

Also, as a test, you may want to directly connect the USBc port from the Mac to the DP port on the monitor via a USBc-to-DP cable.

I want to check if there is an issue with timing signals on the current adapter and the Windows driver. The pixellation and weird colors can be due to timing issues. DVI adapters have different types. If you do not have a different cable, and the TV works properly on HDMI, then it leaves only the HDMI-to-DVI cable. The EDID that the display provides to the Mac is a factor. Are you planning to order a USBc-to-DP cable?

I now realise that this is not the case, as i have had the same issue before with a newer monitor. I have also found that sometimes the pixelation on my monitor is better than other times

How long have you owned this monitor?

and every time i move my laptop, the monitor disconnects for a short time.

This indicates a loose-fitting cable connection between the Mac and monitor. Also, be aware that USBc uses the same 2.4GHz frequency as some of the more common BT/WiFi/DSS/Microwave sources of RF.
