How can I link my expansion drive to my MacBook?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

If your plugging in the expansion drive and your Mac can't see it on finder, head over to lunch pad (shaped like a rocket) and find a app called 'Disk utilities' is where you can reformat the hard drive and everything on it will be wiped, so make sure everything on it is backed up to a separate computer or a separate hard drive, which can see the drive.
