Is there a way to pause the step tracker function of the health app while horseback riding? I have an iphone 11 Pro Max. Do the apple watches allow an on/off functionality for the steps counted?

Steps on watch I have my steps displayed on my watch face. They recently stopped updating my steps unless I tap on the steps and it opens the health app on my phone. How do I get it to continue update my steps without opening the app every time.

You can pause the workout app but not the activity app.
