Quicktime player on iMac Big Sur OS
I was trying to run Quicktime on my new iMac (Big Sur). It only opened an empty window and the menu was inactivated. How can I run Quicktime?

Thanks Matti for your quick response! If a user account is unique per device then my answer to your question is yes. QT ran on my old iMac without problems. I downloaded it there.
Now I want to run it on my new iMac (Big Sur) where it is in applications.
Should I trash QT preferences on the new iMac (Big Sur)? Or on the old iMac?
I meant does it run on that new Big Sur iMac if you there log in to another user account (a temporary Guest account, for example).
If yes, you could try to move
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist to the Desktop and then try to launch QuickTime Player.

QuickTime Player should be installed by default in Big Sur /Applications/ so there is no need to download it. If you have installed it, there is a chance that you have installed an old version that does not run on Big Sur.
I did install it from a download on Big Sur. And when I tried to run it from the pkg file it did not react. Since then I have restarted Big Sur. Would I still need to uninstall the older QT version that I mistakenly downloaded onto Big Sur?
thx!
It works now! Thx so much!!
Does it run on another user account? If yes, trash QT preferences at ~/Library/Preferences etc.
