How do I set a default input value in Audio MIDI Setup?

When I use my MacBook Pro I always plug in a microphone and the input level suddenly changes, goes to the maximum level (in dB) and the audio I record or speak with gets distorted, in other words "earrape". The app, that I'm talking about is Audio MIDI Setup.

I want to find a way to somehow set a default value for the input.

Thank you for the help!

Hello Sbende,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From your post, you want to set a default value for the microphone using Audio Midi Setup. We'll explain.

Just like in System Preferences, Audio Midi Setup is only a set of sliders that control the output of the microphone. The default value is ultimately determined by the microphone when plugged in. If possible, see if there's a way to set that from the manufacturer. Otherwise, the only way to control volume is through the sliders you see on the screen.

Best regards.

Thank you for your reply! I have online meetings, when I join one my microphone input level jumps to the maximum. If I re-adjust it to the optimal level it will be good, but then it has another way of resetting. Through speaking in the meeting. If I speak it doesn't reset but the slider moves around and it can even go up to the maximum. I don't know how to solve it, could you help me? Thanks a lot!
