Accessing data from old Macbook pro SSD on new Macbook pro?

Hi All,

Here's my question. I have a 2011 macbook pro, which recently died. I believe the logic board fried. I have removed the SSD and put it into an external housing.

If I buy a new macbook pro (M1), will I be able to plug in the old SSD and access all my files (including photos from within photos app etc.)? I realise that some things might not be compatible, but assuming they are, will I be able to access them.

I'm assuming yes, but would appreciate clarity.

Thanks a lot.

Yes, you can certainly do that. If your enclosure does not have a USB-C connection, you’ll need a USB-C-to-A adapter to connect it to a new Mac.

Regarding Photos, you can import your old library to the new Mac.
