Adding HomeKit Accessories

For some reason when I try to add new accessories to my home using my iPhone, I don’t get the message that says “allow to connect to network” and the new accessory fails to add. It works fine on my iPad and on my spouses iPhone. It worked before on my phone and I haven’t had any new updates. I tried restarting my phone already and still has issue.

I am continuing to have issues. My iPad was the only device allowing me to add accessories to HomeKit, since the “Allow xxxx to join network” alert would only load there. But now it has stopped working there as well. HomeKit will not allow me to add any new accessories using any iOS device at this point since none of them are giving me the option to allow the accessory to join my network.

I have made sure all of my settings are correct. All of my devices and accessories are up to date. Turning everything off did not work. Please give me solutions that will fix this. :(

Hi there haze_y,

We understand that you are unable to add a HomeKit accessory on your iPhone. We’d be happy to help.

To start, which version of iOS is your iPhone running?

Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Is Bluetooth enabled on your iPhone and is it connected to Wi-Fi when you try to add this accessory?

Also, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and ensure that Home and iCloud Keychain are enabled.

Set up iCloud Keychain

Cheers!

haze_y,

We appreciate that information.

To confirm, is ‘Home’ enabled under Settings > [your name] > iCloud as well?

If so, download the manufacturer app for the accessory and check for updates. If an update is available for the accessory, check that it is on and keep it nearby until the update finishes. Once that is complete, try to pair the accessory once more.

If this continues after doing that, turn off every iOS device or Mac that you use with the Home app and then turn them back on.

We hope that helps!
